Community Impact: Big Idea Talk

On August 9, 2014, 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by police in the city of Ferguson outside of St. Louis.

Public Health Nurse Tonita Smith’s youngest son was the same age and she couldn’t believe what she was seeing live on social media but knew she must do something to help with the health-related impacts of this trauma on her community.

An impassioned plea for caring adults to commit to being part of the solution to the issues young people are facing in their communities, including violence prevention.
