How the Program Works

Home / About Clinical Scholars / How the Program Works

Robust, multi-component program to support the mastery of key competencies for your leadership journey in building a Culture of Health.

Clinical Scholars offers three years of evidence-based curriculum consisting of onsite trainings and distance learning. Together we engage in high-level learning, mentoring, and networking to further equip you to lead transformative change in your community and beyond—putting health and equity at the core.

Team-Based Grant-Funded Project

Many of the skills developed through program learnings will be exercised in the design, implementation, and evaluation of each team’s grant-funded project (referred to as Wicked Problem Impact Project or WPIP).

Onsite Institutes

In-person trainings provide opportunities for in-depth work with experts from various fields and networking to promote maximum learning. Every year we convene in the Fall and Spring and one extra in the final year to complete the program.

Webinars

Clinical Scholars leverages technology to provide continuous and interactive distance learning. Our monthly webinars each focus on program core competencies and can be attended live or viewed at your own convenience.

RWJF Onsites

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundations hosts an Annual Leadership Institute for the 500+ participants in its four national Leadership for Better Health programs with a new theme each year.

Team Coaching

A coach will work with each Clinical Scholars team to use its relationships, shared experiences, and interpersonal awareness in a way that supports their project goals. This support is provided up to 8 times per year.

Executive Coaching

A professional works with each Fellow to help them gain self-awareness, clarify goals, achieve their development objectives, unlock their potential, and act as a sounding board. This support is provide up to 8 times per year.

Individual Development Plan

IDPs help identify professional goals that matter to you; determine what experiences, skills, and behaviors will help you achieve them; and create a plan of action to achieve them. Real-life applications of learnings are recorded to use in future interviews.

FastTrack Leadership Library

Access 25+ online modules providing leadership and management training on topics critical to success. This offers a unique opportunity to further customize learning and to revisit complex skills as needed while working on leadership development.

Mentoring

Fellows benefit from serving as a mentee and mentor during the program. This new experience in each role provides guidance, encouragement, and support that provides a broad range of personal and professional benefits.

Program Readings

Fellows receive 10+ books or ebooks during the three years of the program. There is one per year that is discussed in more detail in a Fellow-led book club.

Self-Assessments

Utilize respected psychological assessment instruments to lay the foundation for a deep understanding of personality structures, human motivation, change management, conflict, emotional intelligence and organizational behavior.

Other Opportunities

Access supplemental funds to obtain expert assistance in the form of a consultant or specialized training to address emergent issues or gaps in projects. In addition, Fellows are considered for additional opportunities through RWJF.
