Lydael Vega-Otero has a Master in Social Work from the Interamerican University in Puerto Rico, along with a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Social Work. Currently, Lydael is a doctoral student in Public Health with a specialization in Social Determinants at the School of Public Health at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. Among her professional experiences, she has been the Director of Social Work in public housing and in subsidized housing projects, a social worker at Title V Programs of the Education Department of PR, and a facilitator in the “Brega Bien project, where she works with young people to prevent risk behavior. She actually is a Director and faculty member of the Department of Social Work at Universidad Ana G. Méndez (formerly Universidad del Turabo). Since March 2016, she has been actively collaborating in the development of a community development project entitled the Social Revolution, which supports student leadership and learning in community base initiatives. She also actually is a Vice President of the Colegio de Profesionales del Trabajo Social de Puerto Rico” organization that regulates the social work profession in Puerto Rico.
