Kevin Hamberger is a clinical psychologist and serves as Professor of Family and Community Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin, and contributes expertise in trauma informed care in the development and implementation of the Milwaukee Prevention of Opioid Misuse through Peer Training (PROMPT) program.
Since 1982, Kevin’s research, scholarship, clinical work, and community work have been in the area of intimate partner violence. For 27 years, he conducted a program of treatment and research for domestically violent men focusing on characteristics and treatment outcome with domestically violent offenders.
Kevin has also been involved with research that addresses intimate partner violence as a healthcare issue, with studies focused on identifying victims of domestic violence in medical practice, and training student and professional health care practitioners to identify and help violence victims. His findings inform curriculum development for training physicians and other health care providers to identify and help patients who are victims of partner violence.
