Harborview Medical Center
Covington, Washington
Hello! My name is Jessica Lowery and I'm a registered nurse at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. I've been a nurse since 2006 and have also worked at Tacoma General Hospital. I prefer to work at safety net hospitals that specialize in trauma care as well as caring for those regardless of their ability to pay. I believe healthcare is a human right that should be afforded to everyone. Without physical and mental health it is nearly impossible to be successful in other areas of life.
As a nurse I have worked on med-surg units, the ICU, and in a Float Pool that covered 14 different floors including the psychiatric units. As COVID would have it, I now work on a mobile testing unit serving Seattle's homeless and low-income neighbors and am based out of a clinic setting. I feel like I've really been able to experience it all!
Over time, I sort of fell into leadership positions as I was chosen by people I respected to first be a charge nurse, then an assistant nurse manager, interim nurse manager, and now manager. I have enjoyed all the steps along the way, but my favorite part of leadership is supporting a team to be the best in their field!
I'm really excited to have this next opportunity with the RWJF Clinical Scholars fellowship program to advance my leadership skills and tackle our wicked problem; The lack of access to healthcare for our homeless neighbors and their beloved pets!
