Biography

Hello! My name is Jessica Lowery and I'm a registered nurse at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. I've been a nurse since 2006 and have also worked at Tacoma General Hospital. I prefer to work at safety net hospitals that have a mission of caring for trauma patients as well as those that are unable to pay for their care. I believe healthcare is a human right that should be afforded to everyone because it's hard to live up to your full potential when you're struggling with physical and mental ailments. As a nurse I have worked on med-surg units, in the ICU, and as part of a large Float Pool that covered 14 different floors including the psychiatric units. When Covid hit, I also had the opportunity to develop and manage mobile testing and vaccine units serving Seattle's homeless and low-income neighbors. I feel like I've really been able to experience it all! I'm currently managing an outpatient surgical specialty clinic serving 10 different specialties: GI, Liver, Kidney, General Surgery, Urology, Palliative Care, Hematology-Oncology, Medical Ops Consults, Hypertension, and Chest. My favorite part of leadership is supporting my team in a variety of ways to get them to be the best that they can be in their field. What began as encouragement from leaders that I really respected to take on more management roles, over time has developed into a leadership journey that I've really enjoyed. I'm really excited to have this opportunity with the RWJF Clinical Scholars fellowship program to advance my leadership skills and tackle our wicked problem; The lack of access to healthcare for our homeless neighbors and their beloved pets!
