Biography

Dr. Jeff Karp is a pediatric dentist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He is the Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program. Jeff, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, maintains clinical privileges with University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. In this capacity, he provides pediatric dental and oral health services for infants, children, and adolescents with complex medical conditions, physical, neurodevelopmental, and intellectual disabilities, and cleft and craniofacial differences.

Jeff is Chair-Elect of the Section on Oral Health of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Jeff is the staff pediatric dentist for the Pediatric Leukemia and Lymphoma Comprehensive Care clinic, the interdisciplinary Epidermolysis Bullosa team, and the University of Minnesota Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Clinics.

Throughout his time in full time academics at both the University of Rochester/Eastman Institute for Oral Health [2004-2012] as well as the University of Minnesota [2012-Present], Jeff has actively participated in scholarly activities including roles as key personnel and principal investigator for research and clinical service grants funded by various sponsors including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation, and the Minnesota Department of Health. Jeff lectures locally as well as nationally on oral health topics for pediatric healthcare professionals, has authored numerous peer reviewed abstracts, articles, and book and handbook chapters, serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several peer reviewed dental journals, and was a member of the editorial board for the journal Pediatric Dentistry for 8 years (2006-2014).

In his spare time, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 daughters (ages 12, 10, and 7), listening to audiobooks and podcasts, catching up on technology news, cooking, and sleeping. Jeff is quite active on Instagram with a personal account focused on street photography.
